VAT registration

Becoming a VAT payer is sometimes mandatory and sometimes beneficial voluntarily. We prepare all the documents, justify the activity to the tax authority and represent you until the VAT number is issued.

When it is mandatory

Two thresholds to watch

The standard VAT rate in Lithuania is 21%. Registration is mandatory when at least one of the thresholds is exceeded:

  • Income from activity in Lithuania over the last 12 months exceeds EUR 45,000
  • Goods acquired from other EU countries in a calendar year exceed EUR 14,000
  • The income of related companies controlled by the same person is counted together
Thresholds may change — we check the current ones before you decide.
Voluntary registration

When it pays to register early

Even if the thresholds are not yet exceeded, a VAT number may still pay off:

  • All your customers are VAT payers: their prices will not rise, and you will look more credible
  • Most of your goods are exported — the 0% rate applies and input VAT is refunded
  • A reduced VAT rate applies to your activity
  • You buy a lot from VAT payers — you will be able to recover input VAT

How it works

Registration with the tax authority

01

Documents

We prepare the application, a description of the activity and the justification of why the company needs a VAT number.

02

Questions from the tax authority

The tax authority often asks for additional documents: contracts, plans, information about premises. We answer on your behalf.

03

VAT number

Once the number is issued, we set up the invoice templates and, if needed, take over the VAT accounting.
